Bush Applauds Bad Immigration Reform Proposal

mexicans.jpg (31934 bytes)(5/20/2007) Whenever I learn that Bush and his Republican pals in Congress are highly supportive of some new legislation I know there is a devil in the details, and that is certainly true of a new immigration reform proposal that was just announced on Thursday. This new proposal is over 800 pages long, and that fact alone should be a warning sign, but the main gist of the proposal is clear. If this new proposal becomes law it would let Mexicans who are here illegally stay here, and it would let even more Mexicans enter the U.S. under a new "guest-worker" program.

This immigration reform proposal is bad on several levels. First, it would help keep wages low for the lowest income Americans by flooding the labor market with low cost Mexican workers. Second, it encourages companies to hire poor Mexican workers at low wages rather than seeking out high-tech innovative solutions. Third, it does nothing to address the root cause of illegal immigration from Mexico, which is a corrupt Mexican government and extreme wealth concentration in Mexico. Fourth, it will lead to higher cost to protect our southern border from more illegal immigration. Finally, it will continue to drain social service's funds from the states with the highest numbers of Mexican immigrants.

I have come up with two common sense solutions to our illegal immigration problem. We should either make all the people who are here illegally leave immediately, build a big wall along our southern border, and restrict trade with Mexico until they reform their political and legal systems. Or, we should make Mexico part of United States as the fifty-first state.

Personally, I like the second solution. Lets go ahead and make Mexico the fifty-first state. Almost half of the population of Mexico is already here and the other half wants to come here. It would save billions of dollars in border security cost and it would vastly increase the federal tax, asset, and resource base. I suspect that less of than 2% of the population in Mexico is satisfied with the status quo and if put to a vote the Mexican people would overwhelmingly support making Mexico the fifty-first state of the United States.

Unfortunately, common sense solutions to our countries problems are no longer possible because we have a money corrupted government that is run by a bunch of right-wing extremist organized criminals. Therefore, we get bad 800 page bills that are full of special interest pork and are never fully read by our elected representatives before they are voted into law. We get political candidates who are sold to us in the order of their fundraising ability rather than the quality of their character. We get costly and unnecessary wars that are started by chickenhawk liars. We get political leaders who were elected on voting machines that don't generate any paper records. We get longer work weeks and wages that don't keep pace with inflation while our elected leaders continue to vote themselves nice fat pay raises with longer and longer vacations. -- Last year the "Do-Nothing" 109th Congress was in session less than 140 days out of the year, and off over 225 days, making it one of the most inactive in our country's history. (2006 salary for members of Congress $165,200) (2006 number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq 822) --

Clearly, the vast majority of the American people are getting the shaft while the Robber Barons and their fascist political puppets are stealing the gold mine, but it doesn't have to be this way. We can fight back, and we should. The Declaration of Independence encourages us to fight the government in defense of our country, and the price of liberty is eternal vigilance by the American people.

First, we can fight back by voting with our dollars. Every American should begin immediate boycotts of the products, companies, and individuals on my boycott list (see Boycott List). Second, we can fight back with the help of the U.S. military. Every American should read, printout, sign, and then mail a letter to our top military leaders asking them to help us save America's democracy (see Sample Letter). Third, we can fight back by educating ourselves and others about what is really happening in our government. Everyone should start getting ready to fight the organized criminals who are currently robbing our government, undermining our democracy, manipulating the American people, and wasting our soldier's lives in Iraq by reading my free online book "FIGHT" (see Fight Guide). Finally, everyone should explain to your family, friends, and anyone else who will listen what is happening in our federal government so that they will understand why you are going to fight the existing power structure.
