Bush took American into Iraq based on four lies. The first lie was that Iraq had weapons
of mass destruction (WMDs). The second lie was that Iraq was an anti-American terrorist
threat to America. The third lie was that Iraq was connected to what happened on 9/11. The
fourth lie was to liberate the people of Iraq and give them a democracy. All these Bush
excuses are lies, and all have been proven untrue.
So why did Bush take us to war in Iraq? In
hindsight, there are four primary reasons that I can see:
Hundreds of
billions of dollars have now been spent in the military-industrial-complex, which Bush's
father is a big part of.
The neo-cons in
and around the Bush administration wanted this to happen for the benefit of Israel's
security.
The oil companies
wanted to increase gas prices and make record profits.
Bush and his
wealthy fascist friends wanted to waste hundreds of billions of our tax dollars to help
them quicken the insolvency of the U.S. government so they can start buying it's assets
for pennies on the dollar.
As a result of this "war on terror" in
Iraq America has spent over $300 billion dollars and has lost over 1,578 U.S. soldiers and
wounded over 20,000 soldiers. There is not an official count of the number of Iraqis
killed but that number is estimated to be as high as 30,000 and the number of wounded is
not known.
Bush's war in Iraq has angered America's
allies and it has created far more terrorism and anti-American feeling throughout the
world. The "we are liberating the Iraqi people and giving them a democracy" is a
phony sales pitch Bush has been trying to sell to the American people from the beginning.
Gas prices in the U.S. are now at record
high levels, and so are the profits of the big oil companies. Bush and his cronies are
trying to use this as an excuse to open up drilling on government lands and parks.
Terrorist acts against American soldiers in
Iraq have been increasing over time. It appears that these terrorist acts are getting much
more deadly.
So what do you think the people of Iraq
want? They want the same things you and I want. They want to go eat at a nice restaurant.
They want to go see the latest movie. They want to take their families on a nice vacation
to a safe location. They want to see their children grow into fine adults, etc, etc, etc.
They are just frightened fragile curious people just like you and me. They are not some
type of demons who sit around thinking of ways to kill American, at least not until
recently.
The
people of Iraq have now been mistreated by their leaders (Saddam), bombed by America, and
now occupied by a group of international allies who allowed their citizens to be tortured,
raped, and murdered at Abu Ghraib prison. The people of Iraq are currently suffering from
frequent power outages, water outages, food shortages, high unemployment, and medical care
and supplies shortages. Put yourself in their shoes and think about how you would feel
about America if you and your family members were suffering like they are. Injustice feels
the same way to all the people of the earth; it hurts.
The solution to any possible threats from
Iraq involved dealing with Saddam, continuing the U.N. weapons inspections, and sanctions.
Bush abandoned those options and opted for war instead of peace with disastrous results
and a big price tag.
Now, Bush must be held accountable for his
evil decision, and that job is up to us.
