Debate Update: Bush/Kerry & Cheney/Edwards
by Chris M. Fick (10/13/2004)

We have now seen Bush/Kerry and Cheney/Edwards debate before very large national audiences and according to the polls the Kerry/Edwards team won all these debates by wide margins. What this tells me is that the American people are smart enough to make the correct decision about who should lead their country if they are given a fair and balanced presentation. I agree with those polls and I believe the American people will choose Kerry/Edwards in November.

What surprised me most was not anything said during the debates but what the political commentators, Chris Matthews and Tim Russert, said just after the debates. Both these pundits exposed themselves to be nothing more than partisan right wing mouth pieces. Before witnessing their performances I believed both of these commentators where more moderate to independent, but I now realize I was fooled. Both of these guys are nothing more than whores for the right wing of the GOP. I have lost a great deal of respect for both of these men because of their complete lack of journalistic independence.

Another thing that surprised me was all the Bush/Cheney signs behind the heads of the political commentators just after the debates. And not just on FOX but also on CNN, MSNBC, and CSPAN. Even when Democrats, like Joe Lockhart, Terry McAuliffe, and Senator Leahy, were talking to the cameras there were people right behind them holding Bush/Cheney signs up for the cameras. Clearly the right wing did some planning and made some arrangements to use this opportunity to get some cheap campaign advertising television time. Later in the nights the Kerry/Edwards signs began to out number the Bush/Cheney signs. And by the end of the nights the Kerry/Edwards signs were dominate on all the major news channels. The GOP must not pay their sign people overtime and the Democrats are a little slow to catch on but have more staying power.

I was not at all surprised by the performances of the candidates during the debates. I knew it would be impossible for Bush or Cheney to defend their horrible record without exposing themselves as liars and frauds, because that is exactly what they are and their record is indefensible. It was like watching dumb and dumber. Bush tried to hide from his abysmal record with lies and passionate statements. He tried to distract people's attention away from the points Kerry was making by acting extremely passionate, concerned, and confident. He offered no detail plans or well thought out solutions only superficial facial expressions and emotion filled responses that were devoid of information. In my opinion, if the lower and middle class people who watched these debate still vote for Bush they deserve to be in the lower classes and stay in the lower classes, and if Bush wins they probably get that outcome.

I also knew that Kerry and Edwards would expose Bush and Cheney for the right wing puppet whores that they are. And they would point out their numerous failures during the past four years, and their coziness with the big corporate special interest, which they did with ease. I also knew that Kerry and Edwards would present a real vision for the direction of America that is honest and positive and would resonate with the American people, and they did, and it did.

Now it is up to the American people to over come the brainwashing they are receiving from the GOP controlled media corporations, like Sinclair and FOX, and the partisan political pundits, like Hannity, Scarbrough, Carlson, Matthews, Russert, and O'Reilly. And to overwhelm the new paperless voting computers that they will be using in November. Failure to do these two things will result in a huge setback for our democracy, and possibly it's demise.
