Boycott All Professional Sports -- Starting Now! --

We need to vote all the Democrats and Republicans out of office, but we also need to join together to protest against the high level of political corruption and the extreme concentration of wealth and power the two party system has created. The most effective action we can take is a boycott of all professional sports. It is also the easiest action we can take as individuals and the least damaging to our economy.

Obama's Health Care Reform Becomes Law

Today President Obama signed the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" into law. This health care reform bill, HR 4872, was passed in both the House and Senate on partisan lines with none of the Republicans voting for it, but the fat lady has not sung yet. This 2,074 page bill, that is being challenged by at least 14 states on constitutional grounds, has a small second part working its way through the legislative system. America's Representative Democracy Is Dead

A few days ago the Supreme Court voted 5 to 4 in the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case to remove the limit on how much money corporations, unions, and individuals can spend to elect or defeat political candidates. However, this ruling did not deal with the limits on how much money could be contributed directly to candidates or political parties. The RNC is currently challenging those direct contribution limits as a free speech issue and is expected to take their case to the Supreme Court. These major changes in campaign finance laws will be the final nails in the coffin of our representative democracy as a money corrupted political system is allowed to become even more corrupted with even more money. The estate tax will go from 45% this year to 0% next year. Bush and the Republicans did this and Obama and the Democrats could fix it, but the silence from this administration is deafening. As a result, the potential exists for the transfers of trillions of dollars in tax-free wealth to a few inheritance rich unproductive people down in Texas and across the country in 2010.
